Here are some hypothetical questions for the test. When I say give a detailed answer, I mean it. This is where you can show off for me how much you know about the given topic.

Pineapple Jello

Biology No Comments »

Just a quick runthrough of the answers to today’s worksheet:

The enzyme we were discussing was bromelain and it comes from pineapples. If you make pineapple jell-o without first cooking the pineapple, the bromelain will break down its substrate. In this case the substrate would be the proteins in the gelatin. Cooking the pineapple will break down, or degrade, the bromelain, but maintain the taste of the pineapple. None of your jello samples set because there was bromelain in any form of the uncooked pineapple.

The quiz scheduled for tomorrow, will be moved back one day. I want to review this idea using the newest way to diagram molecules, and don’t feel that many people are ready for these new diagrams yet.

Checkin’ yo’ email!

Harpeth Teacher Tech Tips No Comments »

I know that many are having trouble checking email, and the unfortunate thing about computers is that they only do what we tell them to do. So just in case you’ve just been sitting in front to the computer telling it to check your email, or perhaps not telling it the right things, I figured this little arrangement of instructions might tickle the fancy of your computer. Who knows? WIth the right prodding you might actually get to see some email.

Again, if you want to see the video on your whole screen, try hitting F11, or using the scroll bars around the edgeof the video the see my entire window.

Just to make this a two for one tech tip, after you have clicked on the link, and it has opened, press F11 to make your browser take up the full screen.

Videos in class

Many of the videos that we will be watching in class can be accessed easily. A couple of tech issues tonight are preventing me from posting the video for tomorrow, but here’s the skinny on how to see the video:

  1. Go to www.unitedstreaming.com
  2. log in using: username – “bcaine” password – “harpeth”
  3. Search for the video using the specified terms.

For tomorrow’s bell-ringer video, search for “biscuit molecule.”

wimshurst demo
Anyone know a cheap way to make a wimshurst machine?
If I could connect the wimshurst to the van de graaff sphere and the other side to myself (while standing on an insulated stool), the bubbles would travel back and forth between the sphere and me along the field lines…
